Kitting Service Capabilities

Fasteners Etc. offers both automated and manual kitting services designed to support manufacturing, construction, maintenance, and distribution operations. Our kitting solutions help streamline inventory management, improve accuracy, and deliver components organized and ready for use. Whether supporting production lines, installation crews, maintenance teams, or large-scale projects, our kitting service will improve efficiency while minimizing errors and material waste.

Gears   What is Automated Kitting?

Automated kitting combines multiple products, components, or fasteners into a specific organized package tailored to an application, project, assembly, or maintenance requirement. By utilizing automated counting, sorting, and packaging technology, Fasteners Etc. can produce consistent, high-volume kits with exceptional accuracy and reliability.

Our automated system supports a variety of poly bag widths ranging from 2" to 6" wide, allowing us to accommodate small component kits as well as larger multi-item assemblies. Each bag is cut to length during the packaging process, ensuring the optimal fit for each kit configuration and minimizing excess material waste.

To support different application requirements, we offer two standard poly bag thickness options:
  • 4 Mil Poly Bags – Ideal for standard-duty applications, including lightweight hardware, fasteners, and general assembly kits. Provides a balance of flexibility, durability, and cost efficiency.
  • 6 Mil Poly Bags – Designed for heavy-duty or high-wear environments where additional strength is required. Commonly used for industrial components, maintenance kits, and kits subjected to frequent handling or transport.
Both options are selected based on product weight, handling conditions, and end-use requirements to ensure durability and product protection throughout storage and distribution.

Our automated kitting equipment is capable of producing both single-component and multi-component (mixed) kits depending on project specifications:
  • Single Component Kits – High-speed packaging of identical parts into uniform quantities, ideal for production lines, resale packaging, or replenishment programs.
  • Mixed Component Kits – Combination of multiple SKUs or parts into a single organized kit based on bill of materials (BOM), installation requirements, or maintenance procedures. This reduces handling time and ensures all necessary components are delivered together.
In addition to standard kitting formats, our system supports cell-based packaging configurations, allowing components to be grouped into defined sections or “cells” within a kit. This format is especially useful for:
  • Installation and assembly kits
  • Step-by-step maintenance kits
  • Multi-stage production kits
  • Field service and repair kits
Cell packaging helps improve usability by organizing components in a logical sequence, making it easier for end users to identify, access, and utilize materials efficiently during installation or repair processes.

Hand   What is Manual Kitting?

Manual kitting is the process of assembling multiple products, components, or materials into a specific organized package by hand according to specific customer, project, or production requirements. Unlike automated kitting, manual kitting allows for greater flexibility when handling customized kits, varied quantities, specialty items, or components that require visual inspection and careful assembly.

To support different application requirements, we offer two standard bag thickness options for poly bags or less commonly, recloseable bags (if requested):

  • 4 Mil Bags – Ideal for standard-duty applications, including lightweight hardware, fasteners, and general assembly kits. Provides a balance of flexibility, durability, and cost efficiency.
  • 6 Mil Bags – Designed for heavy-duty or high-wear environments where additional strength is required. Commonly used for industrial components, maintenance kits, and kits subjected to frequent handling or transport.

Both options are selected based on product weight, handling conditions, and end-use requirements to ensure durability and product protection throughout storage and distribution.

Our manual kitting services are designed to accommodate a wide range of packaging and assembly requirements. This might be the optimal service offered for for highly complex or lower-volume projects that benefit from hands-on attention and quality control. However, this service is also an excellent choice for those kits that include large components or oddly shaped ones that are unable to be ran through automation without causing damange.

  • Single Component Kits – Packaging of identical parts into uniform quantities, ideal for production lines, resale packaging, or replenishment programs.
  • Mixed Component Kits – Combination of multiple SKUs or parts into a single organized kit based on bill of materials (BOM), installation requirements, or maintenance procedures.

Which Method is Best?

Both automated and manual kitting play critical roles in the supply chain, with the ideal solution depending on your product mix, volume, and operational requirements. Regardless of the method used, receiving pre-assembled kits eliminates the time and labor associated with locating, counting, sorting, and packaging individual components, allowing your team to focus on higher-value tasks. Automated kitting excels in high-volume, repeatable applications, while manual kitting provides the flexibility and attention to detail required for low-volume or complex assemblies. Many organizations benefit from utilizing both methods depending on the specific project or product requirements.
