A machine screw hex nut has six sides and a hollow center with internal threading allowing it to fit over an externally threaded shaft, much like a finished hex nut. The machine screw hex nuts offer the same uses and applications but at much smaller diameters. A machine screw nut is most often going to be used with a machine screw which is also available in smaller diameters when compared to standard screws.
