Self-Tapping screws are offered in 3 types: A, B and AB. The type A self-tapping screw is distinguished by a sharp point with course threads for cutting into softer material such as wood or plastics. Like the broader category of self-tapping screws, threads are formed as the screw is driven in the base material to create a firm, secure hold.
